With a property of this age, problems do occur from time to time. Connaught Mews being a grade II listed building does sometimes require maintenance. We aim to ensure that problems are dealt with as quickly as possible before they get out of hand. Please let us know as soon as possible if you find a problem.   • Washing machine and boxes left by Nightingale House bin area. Did anyone see who did this? Remember if it does not go in the bins it will not be collected. We then have to arrange for removal and this increases your service charge.

  • Main gate has failed (electrical problem). Markhams attended to the problem on the 1st April.
  • 3rd April first Thursday of the month open residents meeting in 20 Lantern House at 7:00pm.
  • Future residents meetings will now be every 3 months - please see the management page.
  • 5th & 6th April Durkan Homes development of Royal Military Academy launch of the marketing suite between 10am and 6pm.
  • Door closer added to rear door of Artillery House.
  • Artillery House rear garden gate repaired.
  • Letter mailed to CMSE18MC Ltd directors regarding the future of the gym.
  • Provisional date of Monday 7th July set for the AGM.
  • Service charge update; only 7 outstanding debtors and only 3 residents have yet to make any contribution. Thank you to all those who have paid promptly, this is an enormous help. The remaining debtors are being actively pursued with legal action to be taken as necessary.

  • Grand Depot Road pedestrian gate adjusted. The gate had not been closed properly by the resident who used it when the main gate failed. Please do not use this gate for cars unless it is a real emergency and contact Redwood Estates so that they can ensure it is made safe again.
  • Bike taken from the back of Artillery House - did anyone see anything?
  • Artillery House front door closer adjusted.
  • Noticed boards updated with management and contact information etc. Quarterly news updates will now be available on the boards. Any suggestions for additional items for the boards?
  • Gardeners started to remove several old tree stumps and have swept the car park.
  • Please do not put notices on the gate. If the Telguard system on the gate does not ring your flat contact Redwood Estates.
  • Gate at the front of Nightingale leading down to the basement unlocked to allow free emergency exit.

  • Meeting with the gardeners to go over future plans for the site.
  • Wall outside 20 Nighingale made good following previous flood
  • Several residents have said they have not been left a card when they have missed a delivery. If you find a card in the black box on the gate either be a good neighbour and deliver the card, or leave it in the box. It is also a good idea to remind couriers to use the post box and to always mark delivery cards with the flat number and the block - a lot of cards do not have this detail. If you need a key to the delivery card post box contact Redwood Estates.
  • The gardeners have started to clear some of the beds in the back courtyards.
  • A cheque was found in the car park - if you have lost it please contact Redwood Estates.
  • A couple of residents have enquired about reducing the height of the trees in the back courtyards to increase light. This will need to be investigated as it is a specialist job due to the height of the trees and the limited access.
  • Lantern House front door has been repaired to stop the door catching.
  • Fire doors in Nightingale House basement have been adjusted and repaired.
  • All garden doors were looked at and adjusted where necessary to stop them sticking.

  • Car parking reminder - please only park in the designated bays. In particular do not park next to the steps by the central courtyard. Another car that parked there has been clipped by a passing vehicle. You may want to pass on this advice to your visitors.
  • A reminder to all Freeholders/Directors that their response to the gym letter is required by the 30th April.
  • New beds dug by gardeners in front of Artillery House following requests from residents to prevent people walking across the lawns. These residents will be paying for the plants.
  • New door closers fitter to the gas/electric metre rooms in Nightingale and Lantern Houses. Residents are reminded that due to Health, Safety & Fire regulations nothing should be stored in these rooms, including items such as boxes. The rooms must remain clear at all times.
  • A new resident has moved to the Mews. A 7inch terrapin was spotted in the pond at the back of Artillery House while it was being cleared out.
  • Light bulbs replaced at the main gates.
  • The bike store at the back of Artillery House has been reinforced following the recent loss of a bike.

  • Closing date for responses from Freeholders/Directors to vote on the future of the gym is 30th April.
  • The spikes on top of one half of the Grand Depot Road pedestrian gate have fallen off. This is a result of residents slamming the gate. The gate is very old (antique) and showing its age so please treat it with respect. If you have difficulties with the gate then please contact Redwood Estates.
  • More furniture has been dumped by the bin area of Nightingale House. Did you see anything? This is driving up your service charge!

  • Notice boards updated with results of the vote on the gym.
  • Please remember to take all your possessions with you when you leave the tennis court.
  • Residents are respectfully reminded that the lease does not allow for any washing to be dried outside of your flat.
  • The Grand Depot Road pedestrian gate is damaged and unsafe to use! We have arranged for a blacksmith to come in on the 20th May (the earliest opportunity) to see what can be done. In the meantime residents will have to use either the main Woolwich New Road pedestrian gate or the gate by the tennis court.

  • Flower beds at front of Lantern and Artillery house have been planted out.
  • The pedestrian gate has had to be locked as some residents were ignoring the sign requesting it not to be used as it is unsafe.
  • A wasps nest has been reported near 23 Lantern House.
  • Have you lost a football? 3 footballs have been taken out of the garden. Contact Redwood Estates if one of these was yours, but please remember the only ball game permitted is tennis.
  • A large motorbike cover has been removed. If you want to get rid of something, have it collected for free and be "green", why not try using FreeCycle.

  • A big thank you to the residents who are making a real effort to make the Mews garden so attractive. If anyone else would like to help in the garden please contact us.
  • Cleansweep removed a bed - our thanks to the resident who organised this. If you want to get rid of unwanted items why not use FreeCycle (see last weeks news above) or see details for Cleansweep who will make a small charge to remove household items.
  • The blacksmith visited the mews. We are waiting for his report on the Grand Depot Road pedestrian gate and increasing the security of the main electronic gate onto Woolwich New Road.
  • Several decorators have visited the Mews to prepare quotes for the external decoration.
  • Our regular postman (David) is being moved to another round in 3 weeks, but has promised to instruct the new postman before he leaves. Click here for more information on Royal Mail delivery.
  • A tree has partly up rooted itself by the railings and is covering the path on Woolwich New Road. The gardener (Andrew) has been asked to see what can be done.
  • First directors met to review the budget and outstanding works list.

  • Following the very heavy rain we have had some flash flooding at the front of all 3 buildings. Our thanks to the residents who helped to clear the drains of leaves. If you spot a drain that looks blocked please contact Redwood Estates immediately.
  • Please note that the cost of replacement remotes for the main gate has risen slightly. If you need a new remote click here.
  • A drain company had to be called out Bank Holiday Monday to deal with a blocked sewer pipe at Nightingale House.
  • A small tree has come down next to the car park near the main gate in the heavy rain. This has been made safe and will be cleared during the week.
  • Update on the Grand Depot Road pedestrian gate - we have agreed the quote and the blacksmith hopes to begin the repairs within the next 2 weeks.

  • The electronic gate has been repaired - the motor was not always engaging the gears to open it.
  • The Council have not emptied the blue recycle bins by Nightingale House because residents have dumped boxes and a PC monitor in front of the bins. Remember the Council need clear access to the bins and only take things that are put into the bins.
  • A handle has been added to gate near the tennis court to make it easier to open and close.
  • Carpet cleaned and dried in Nightingale House basement.
  • A gas leak has been attended to in Nightingale House.

  • We have appointed a new solicitor WSM (Solicitors) LLP.
  • Redwood Estates have written to all residents regarding window repairs before the exterior of the buildings are redecorated. Click here to read the letter.
  • The gardeners have begun to lop the trees in rear courtyards to let in more light.
  • Important address change! Redwood Estates have moved offices. The contact telephone numbers remain the same - only their address has changed and now they are even nearer to the Mews.

  • AGM reminder - Monday 7th July in the company office 20 Lantern House at 7:00pm.
  • Our Grade II listed wall has been damaged by a 'for sale' sign being nailed to it. Please be aware that if you are letting or selling your property, it is your responsibility to ensure that estate agents do not attach signs to the walls or railings. Please see the buying and selling information page and instruct your agents to contact Redwood Estates.
  • Please do not drop cigarette butts by the entrance door and please not do put any rubbish in the salt bins.
  • An electrician has been called out to attend to some electrical problems, notably the lighting in the basement of the rear of Artillery House.
  • Safety ventilation vents have been fitted to the electrical/gas metre rooms in Lantern and Nightingale Houses.
  • The blacksmith will be coming to the Mews next Tuesday to repair the pedestrian gate at Grand Depot Road.
  • Lighting sensors and light bulbs replaced in the basements.
  • Repair to small patch of damp in store cupbard in the back of Artillery House.

  • Summer News on the Mews published.
  • Unfortunately we have been let down by the blacksmith. The required brackets have been made and he hops to attend to the Grand Depot Road pedestrian gate later next week or possibly the week after.
  • Painting of the exterior of the buildings is scheduled to start next month. If you need to repair any window frames this needs to be done before painting begins, otherwise your windows will NOT be painted. If in doubt please contact Redwood Estates.

  • Exterior painting has started with the doors at the rear of Artillery House.
  • Greenwich Council has given permission to remove and replace the dead cheery blossom tree by the main gate.
  • The tennis courts were weeded and sprayed with weed killer. The courts have been swept 5 times over the past 2 weeks to remove loose stones and leaves.
  • The gullies cleaned and will be checked weekly. A leaf blower has been purchased by the gardener to help keep gullies and paths clear.
  • The old abandoned fox hole has been leveled, as has other areas around the tennis court.

  • AGM held on Mon 7th July. The minutes will be circulated soon.
  • Wooden post added to end of Artillery House lawn to stop vans driving over the lawn.
  • Leak in Nightingale roof attended to.
  • We have been let down by the blacksmith again and the pedestrian gates onto Grand Depot Road have not been repaired. A new blacksmith is now being sought.
  • A support bracket has been added to bin shed next to Nightingale house as gutter was not supported properly.
  • Some stumps have been removed from beds along back wall.
  • The cherry blossom tree to the right of entrance has been pruned to stop it falling a as it lying over.

  • Residents have left rubbish on floor by the recycle bins again. This is attracting vermin.
  • 2 youths spotted climbing into the Mews by the pedestrian gate near the tennis courts. Please report any such incidents by contacting Redwood Estates.
  • Drain company called out to attend to a blocked drain at the back of Nightingale. Residents are reminded that the drains are old small bore Victorian pipes and that they are not to put large items or fatty kitchen waste down the drains.
  • Guttering at the rear of Nightingale repaired to stop leak in heavy rain.
  • Some flats experienced a power cut. This was a general problem and not local to the Mews.

  • Work has begun on painting the exterior of the Nightingale House windows by the bin store. These were in pretty good shape and only required rubbing down before undercoating. Gloss work will be done on this side of the building next week.
  • Two of the guide wheels on the main electronic gate have broken. This is not stopping the gate from working and they will be replaced shortly.
  • We have finally located another blacksmith who is scheduled to begin work on the Grand Depot Road gates on the 2nd August.
  • The main electronic gate has had to be left open in order that the broken runner wheels can be removed and replacements ordered.

  • Please take extra care over security while the gate is being left open. We appear to have an abandoned van at the back of Artillery House.
  • A rubbish bag was again left by the bins in Nightingale House bin area. If the bins there are full do not be lazy and take your rubbish around to the other bins.
  • The gardeners have begun to trim the trees touching the front of Lantern House and blocking out light to the basement.
  • Meeting with residents, CMSE18 and Redwood Restates to discuss improvements in the ground maintenance.

  • New runner wheels have been fitted to the main electronic gate which is now working operational again.
  • The Grand Depot Road pedestrian gate is open for use again. The hinge has still to be repaired properly so please use with care.

  • The blacksmith has made new brackets for the Grand Depot Road pedestrian gate and also a bracket to secure the electrical box by the main gate.
  • The blacksmith plans to take off the Grand Depot Road Pedestrian to see exactly what needs repairing or replacing to stop it catching.
  • An open meeting is to be held at 7pm on Tuesday the 12th of August in the office in Lantern House (flat 20) to discuss the setting up of a residents Gardening Committee.
  • The Grand Depot Pedestrian gate has had to be locked again as residents were finding it difficult to lock and were leaving it open.
  • The blacksmith hopes to return to attend to the gate next week.

  • 2 abandoned cars have been removed from the car park. The owner of the van at the back of Artillery House has promised to move it this week.
  • We have received a quote to complete a survey and jet the drains, however this is very expensive so we are seeking alternative quotes to ensure we get value for money.
  • The drain at the rear of Nightingale House blocked again in the heavy rain over the weekend. We have identified a broken drain. Work will begin to repair next week.
  • Meeting with Redwood Estates 12th to discuss options to resolve the remaining damp work in Nightingale House.
  • Inaugural residents gardening meeting 12th Aug to help encourage a greater say in the way the gardens maintained.
  • The bedding van that was parked at the back of Artillery House has been removed.

  • The drain at the back of Nightingale that was blocking has been repaired.
  • Please do not attach signs to the main electronic gate. If your intercom is not working contact Redwood Estates. One note recently attached to the gate was stuck on with so much tape it removed paint when taken down.
  • A drain pipe into a water butt at the rear of Artillery Has been repaired.
  • We have continued to have a few problems with post since our regular postman left. We have now been advised by the post office that if there is a letterbox at the entrance to a block, they will only deliver to that. We will therefore have to seal these shut to force the post office to deliver to each resident's flat.

  • More signs have been attached to the main electronic gate. This is a breach of your lease. If your intercom is not working contact Redwood Estates.
  • Please crush all boxes before putting them into the re-cycle bins. The bins at the back of Artillery were overflowing due to a resident leaving a large home cinema box in the bin.
  • Please note that polystyrene is not recyclable. Please click here to see what can and can not be re-cycled.
  • The blacksmith has now said the Grand Depot Road pedestrian gate will be fixed by next Wednesday. He is collecting one more part for the gate this week and then plans to begin working on the gate from Monday.

  • The blacksmith's work on the Grand Depot Road pedestrian gate has been delayed by the bad weather.
  • The green water butts at the back of the bin areas are for rain water collection only and not for rubbish!
  • Residents asked for suggestions for locations for additional benches in the gardens.
  • Health and safety signs to be added to the tennis court fence.
  • Additioal fire safety signs have been put up.
  • Work will begin next week to improve the drains next to Nightingale House to help direct rain water away from the building.

  • Local tree surgeons has been on site and will be prepare a report of work to be done.
  • The blacksmith's has been on site working on the Grand Depot Road pedestrian gate.
  • The surface of tennis court has been repaired. There was some tree root damage and was breaking up with general wear and tear.
  • There will be an electrical check of all electrical items in the communal areas.
  • The pedestrian gate onto Grand Depot Gate is now working again. Some minor repairs to the tarmac and paintwork are still required, so please take care when using it.
  • The Grand Depot Road pedestrian gate repairs are now finished and it is much much easier to open. Please respect the gate and do not slam it. If you are having trouble with the lock contact Redwood Estates to purchase a replacement key.
  • A new cherry tree has been planted near to the electronic gate to replace the one that died earlier this year.

  • The electrical survey has been completed. There are some changes required due to new legislation. There may be brief power outages when the work takes place
  • One resident has allowed an estate agent to nail a sign to the wall outside of the Mews. This is damaging the Grade 2 listed wall and is not permitted under the terms of the lease. Please click here to see more information on "for sale" signs.
  • We now have the report from the tree surgeon and quite a lot of work is required around the Mews. This includes thing out and reducing the height of some of the trees nearest to the buildings.
  • The drainpipe filling the water butt at the rear of Artillery House has been repaired.
  • Work has started on a new drain at the side of Nightingale to help take water running off the car park away from the building.
  • A second painter has been employed to help complete the exterior painting. Ideally we would like this finished in the next two months but progress has been slow due to the poor weather.
  • The main entrance to Artillery House at the court yard side has been adjusted to ensure that the door closes and locks properly.
  • Residents meeting to be held on Monday 6th October. There are some expensive items of work to be undertaken and we would welcome your views. These include replacing the path to the tennis court, building a low retaining wall for the bank in front of Lantern House and planting out the border on the wall between the Grand Depot Road gate and the tennis court.

  • The pathway at the rear of Nightingale house has been repaired to make it level.
  • Meeting between first directors and Redwood Estates to review action list.
  • We have had some reports that some residents are having difficulties with the pedestrian gate next to the main electronic gate on to Woolwich New Road. We have tested the lock and it appears fine. If you are having trouble with the lock contact Redwood Estates to purchase a replacement key.
  • There have been some complaints about a party held in Claydown Mews that went on until the early hours. The council were contracted and are writing to the people involved.
  • Please do not put anything in the bins that prevent the lids from closing. If your rubbish will not fit either break it up or contact Greenwich Council. Click here for more information.

  • Late Sunday evening a car hit the wall just above the Grand Depot Road pedestrian gate. The fire brigade have advised that the wall will not collapse further, but parts of it will have to be rebuilt. Our insures have been contacted.
  • A temporary fence has been put up over the hole in the wall.
  • A television has been left by the Nightingale House bin area. The binmen will not remove such items. Please click here for more information.

  • A temporary fence has been put over the hole in the wall by the Grand Depot Road pedestrian gate. Our insurers have been notified.
  • Residents meeting held Monday 6th. Works agreed; path to tennis court, retaining wall in front of Lantern House, tree work in line with insurance requirements and sites for benches. Items to be considered subject to proposals and quotes; further path work, compost arrear, planting along Grand Depot Road wall and planters by the gates.
  • Please take care to ensure that the main doors close and lock behind you when you leave.

  • Work to repair the wall at the Grand Depot Road pedestrian gate has been completed.
  • Repairs have been made to the lead flashing around the chimneys on Lantern House.
  • The roof guttering on Lantern House have been cleared.
  • Unfortunately another car has been dumped on the Mews. Legal action is being taken against the individuals involved. We are considering options such as parking permits to discourage this unsocial practice.

  • Work has begun on the retaining wall at the front of Lantern House.
  • The main electronic gate failed on Monday. As a result a well meaning resident opened the Grand Depot Gates but failed to lock them again. This gate must only be used in a real emergency and kept locked at all other time.
  • A resident has dumped a chair and hoover in front of the bins at Nightingale House. Can we remind you again not to leave ANYTHING outside of the bins. This is costing all residents to clear these things away.
  • We have had some heavy rain and a lot of leaves have come down. Please keep and eye on the drains and report to Redwood Estates any blockages you cannot clear.
  • Electrical work in all 3 buildings to meet insurance requirements is now complete.
  • Light bulbs have been changed in all 3 buildings. If you see a light bulb is not working please contact Redwoods.
  • There have been further problems opening the main electronic gate. These have now been fixed and should not occur again.

  • The paving slabs at the back of Lantern House have been levelled and cleaned.
  • Salt bins to be refilled ready for winter. Please do not put rubbish in these bins.
  • A resident has hit the wooden post on the corner of lawn at the Artillery House end. - please take care and do not cut the corner.
  • Another resident has allowed an estate agent to nail a sign to the wall outside of the Mews. This is damaging the Grade 2 listed wall and is not permitted under the terms of the lease. Please click here to see more information on "for sale" signs.

  • The bike store has been pained and cleared. If residents wish to use the bike store please contact Redwoods Estates for the combination.
  • Please do not stick notes to the front gate. If your Teleguard gate entry system is not working please contact Redwood Estates.
  • The low retaining wall at the front of Lantern House has been completed, however the slaps have yet to be re-laid.
  • Some residents are leaving things by the bins again. Everything must go in the bins. Do not assume someone else might want it or that it will be cleared away for you.
  • Some soil has been placed behind the new retaining wall in front of Lantern House.

  • The owner of 3 abandoned cars has removed them.
  • Service review meeting with Redwood Estates postponed until next week.
  • The lock on the Grand Depot Road pedestrian gate is faulty. You may have to unlock the gate, turn the key while the gate is open to lock it again to enable you to be able to remove your key, go through the gate, insert your key on the other side and unlock it, close the gate then lock it again. If in any doubt use another gate and leave the gate locked until the lock is fixed.

  • Service review meeting with Redwood Estates.
  • The gardeners will now be on site every Thursday to clear leaves and mow lawns.
  • The slabs at the rear of Lantern House have been jet washed.
  • The drains in the car park have been suction cleared.
  • The salt bins have been cleared out and refilled.
  • The light by the pedestrian entrance at the main gate has failed. Redwoods are aware and will attend to it.

  • The courtyard area at the rear of Lantern House is to be cleared. If you have left anything out there please remove it immediately.
  • The tree in the central court yard next to the corner of Nightingale House has been declared dangerous as it is rotten. The Council will be on site on Tuesday to advise.
  • We are seeking additional quotes for tree works and replacement of the path from the tennis court to the car park.
  • The old gas metre next to Grand Depot Road pedestrian gate has been removed.
  • Some of the residents in the basement of Lantern have taken to storing things outside of their flats. The fire officer has advised that the corridors must be kept clear at all times and under no circumstances should any combustible material such as boxes be left out.

  • Further quotes obtained for tree works.
  • Council on site to advise on the rotten tree in the central court yard next to the corner of Nightingale House.
  • Please ensure that all doors are kept closed and locked at all times. One or two residents have taken to using the fire exits but are not always closing the doors.
  • The site of the old gas meter next to Grand Depot Road pedestrian gate has been landscaped to hide the concrete base.
  • The light at the rear of Artillery House in the courtyard has been replaced.
  • The Council has confirmed that we need to remove the tree next to Nightingale House. They have also advised that up to 5 other trees may be dead and need to be replaced.

  • The lock on the main pedestrian gate has been replaced. The new lock uses the same key but contact Redwood Estates if you have any problems.
  • Planning permission for the conversion of the gym has been approved.
  • A door handle has been fitted to the inside of the meter room door in Nightingale House.
  • For security the back door at Nightingale has been set so it will always close and can't be put on the latch.
  • The lock at the back of Artillery House has also been oiled to ensure it locks properly.
  • One of the rear garden doors has been shaved to stop it sticking.

  • The pedestrian gate on Grand Depot Road gate was left unlocked after someone had opened both gates, but had not been able to shut the gate properly. This gate should only be used for vehicles in an emergency and its use should be reported to Redwood Estates.
  • The intercom link from flats to the main entrance door at Lantern House is not working, the electronic latch on the main door needs to be replaced.
  • The slab on the top step next to the dangerous tree on the corner of Nightingale House has been secured.
  • 4 broken slabs have been replaced from the front path leading to the side/back of Lantern House and concreted in.
  • The base of step leading to Lantern House has been repaired, some stones have been pushed in the concrete for extra grip.
  • The courtyard at the back of Lantern House has been cleared of old plants and rubbish.
  • The door closer to Artillery House has been adjusted to ensure the door locks.
  • There is an intermittent problem with the gate - it does not always recognise remote controls. This is cleared when the gate is reset which is being done each evening until we can get a permanent fix.
  • We have now received quotes for the internal decoration. Work will begin in the new year.
  • The emergency exit doors in Lantern House have been fitted with security bolts that can be opened in an emergency. The doors must NOT be used except in a real emergency. This is for your security. Use of the doors will invalidate your insurance.
  • The light on the main gate has been repaired.

  • The intercom link from flats to the main entrance door at Lantern House has been fixed.
  • A new control panel has been fitted to the main gate to over come the intermittent problem with not opening.
  • Someone is still using the emergency exit doors in Lantern House basement. Further locks have been fitted so that it can only be used in an emergency. An alarm will be fitted if it is still used.
  • Someone is leaving black bags beside the bins at the rear of Artillery House. All rubbish must be put in the bins. If it is not it will not be collected and will attract vermin.
  • A survey is being done of all the tress on the Mews to record what trees we have and to identify all the tree works needed.
  • Work will begin Christmas eve to remove the rotten tree next to Nightingale House. A tree will be planted to replace it but further away from the flats.

  • Rubbish! We all have extra this time of year please make sure yours goes in the bins and ideally crush it up as much as possible and recycle anything you can. No rubbish must be left in the corridors or outside the bins including black all bags and Christmas trees.
  • Unfortunately the main gate continues to give us problems. An engineer from BFT is coming out on Monday 29th.
  • Free to a good home. Does anyone want any of the old gym equipment? The treadmill and cross trainer will be sold but the rest is free. Please contact us if you are interested.
